The environmental safety features of modular HTGR
Description
The coated particle fuel elements are used in the modular high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, which have a significantly higher degree of fission product retention. The radioactive activity in the primary helium coolant is very low. The amount of radioactivity released to environment during normal operation is very small. Under design basis accidents the environmental impact caused by both of normal operation and design basis accidents is very small. The release of radioactivity to environment is not large. Therefore the environmental safety features of modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor are described in regard of above-mentioned items in the paper. The conclusion is that the modular high-temperature gas-cooled reactor is suitable for industrial sites and locations with a high population density to provide process heating for industrial enterprise
