Ultrasoft x radiation bands of zirconium, niobium and molybdenum silicides

  • 1. Leningradskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR)

Description

Ultrasoft x-ray spectra of silicides of transition metals in the beginning of the second period are studied. Lsub(2,3) emission bands of Si are obtained in Zr-Si, Nb-Si, and Mo-Si compounds and also Nsub(2,3)(4p)-Msub(4,5)(3d) spectra of the compounds. The most significant changes (as compared to pure elements) undergo Lsub(2,3) emission bands of Si and Msub(4,5) bands of metals. The structure similarity of the spectra of compounds of the same type, but of different metals, testifies to a great similarity in the structure of the bands and, therefore, interatomic bonds, irrespective of the composition of silicides. The formation of compounds affects to the least degree the shape and energy position of the Nsub(2,3) bands of a metal. A comparison of the results obtained with those obtained in studies of the electronic structure of silicides of the transition metals of the first period indicates that the band structures and the types of interatomic bonds in the silicides of metals of various periods are very much the same
