Charge exchange in large angle scattering of C6+ on He

  • 1. Kansas State Univ., Manhattan, KS (United States)

Description

The experiment in progress measures the fractions of double capture, single capture and no-charge exchange in hard collisions of 13C6+ on He0 at 7.5 keV/amu with a projectile scattering angle in the range of 1-3 degrees. The rare, hard collisions are identified with a time of flight analysis between the large angle scattered particle and the energetic recoil. This system is equivalent to the reaction of 7 degree scattering of 30 keV He0, which is used by van Blokland et al. to measure the ion temperature of the low Z plasma fuel in the TEXTOR tokamak. The interpretation of their results requires knowledge of the fraction of scattering from high Z impurities, such as C6+, for which no charge exchange occurs
