On the separation in skimmed molecular beams from free jet expansions of binary gas mixtures

  • 1. Deutsche Forschungs- und Versuchsanstalt fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V., Goettingen (F.R. Germany)

Description

An attempt was made to study the role played by the skimmer geometry on the degree of separation attained in binary jets. A spherically symmetric flow proceeding from a virtual source is considered as representing the free jets of a binary mixture expanding into a space occupied by an infinite wall at a certain distance from the source center. The problem posed is to determine the number density of each component of the binary gas mixture at a detector located at a given distance from the skimmer cone entrance. Numerical calculations were done on an IBM 370 computer for a free jet of a argon-helium mixture
