Valence III of thorium produced by pulse radiolysis of aqueous thorium sulfate solution

Description
Thorium (IV) sulfate in aqueous solution has been reduced by pulse radiolysis through a one electron reaction with the species of charge +2: ThS042+ + e-sub(aq) → ThSO4+. rate constant at zero ionic strength is equal to 1.0 +- 0.5 x 1010 M-1 sec-1. The existence of a new binuclear associated cation, Th2SO46+, is proposed, the formation equilibrium constant of which is equal to 7 +- 2 M-1. (author)
