Development of an electrode wire CT method for void distribution measurement. 1. Principle of measurement and fundamental properties

Description

Precise information on void distribution is required to assess multidimensional two-phase flow phenomena. For this purpose, a new electrode wire CT method for void distribution measurement is proposed. The principle of void measurement by this method is based on that of the well-known probe method which measures the conductance of a two-phase mixture between electrodes. The CT scanner of the method consists of ten pairs of two closely arranged electrode wires which allow measurement of the conductance of the two-phase mixture between wires. In this paper, the applicability of the proposed method to CT measurement is discussed and the experimental results using an air-water two-phase flow test apparatus are compared with the data obtained from a conventional probe method. Reasonable agreement of void data measured by the two different methods confirms the applicability of the proposed electrode wire CT method. (author)
