Electronic transition in CeAl2: an experimental and computational study

  • 1. Materials Science Division, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)
  • 2. Department of Physics, Anna Univ., Chennai (India)

Description

Cerium dialuminide was investigated using high pressure powder x-ray diffraction technique up to 23 GPa. An anomaly was observed in the compressibility behaviour between 2-6 GPa. The result contradicts earlier reports of a volume discontinuity. Band structure calculations show about a 20% drop in the total density of states in the region of anomaly and the band dispersion curves indicate a Lifshitz transition. (author)
