X-ray source

Description

A hollow cylinder's lateral surface is made of a radioactive substance. The emitted photons induce X-ray fluorescence in a cone of suitable material, coaxially mounted inside the cylinder. The cone tapers towards a collimator made of the same material. The collimator is fitted with a filter. The cone-collimator assembly can move along its axis, and is easily interchangeable. This constitutes a high intensity monoenergetic X-ray source covering the 10 keV - 100 keV range. (RW)

Abstract (German)

Die Seitenflaeche eines Hohlzylinders besteht aus radioaktivem Material. Die emittierten Photonen induzieren Roentgenfluoreszenzstrahlen in einem koaxial im Zylinder angeordneten Kegel aus geeignetem Material. Die Spitze des Kegels weist zu einem aus dem gleichen Material bestehenden Kollimator. Der Kollimator ist mit einem Filter bestueckt. Die Kegel-Kollimator-Einheit ist drehbar um eine Achse und leicht austauschbar. Dies ist eine monoenergetische Roentgenquelle hoher Intensitaet im Bereich von 10 keV - 100 keV. (RW)
