Creators

Description

An account is given of the plans for excavating the tunnel and associated caverns and shafts required for the CERN LEP (Large Electron Positron collider), including contractual arrangements, technical specifications; machines to be used for the excavation, rock structures; and administrative and work force matters. As the machine will straddle the France-Switzerland border, special administrative and political arrangements were made and are referred to. A brief description is given of the LEP itself and its operation in association with the SPS (Super Proton Synchrotron). (U.K.)
