Roadmap towards a net zero energy city by 2038, Springfield, Australia

In this article, Charles-Edouard Delpierre and Carolyn Abela Rebiscoul present the road-map towards a net zero energy city by 2038 for the city of Springfield in Australia, a project led by the company Tractebel. Tractebel is an engineering and urban consultancy subsidiary of the Engie group, whose objective is to be the engineering of a carbon neutral future. Their action plan can be summed up in three aspects: mobility, building and energy. Indeed, one of the objectives in the context of decarbonization is to focus on multimodality and the sharing of mobility. Also, one of the main topics is that of insulation since the individual residential building has very little insulation in Australia. We must therefore think about the right technologies to construct and renovate buildings. Finally, Net zero energy means that we must produce what we use and we must also limit CO₂ emissions thanks to solar panels. (author)
