Long term investigation of the wholesomeness of irradiated food stuffs in mice

  • 1. Meditsinska Akademiya, Sofia (Bulgaria). Nauchen Inst. po Rentgenologiya i Radiobiologiya

Description

The effect of food stuffs moderately radiated with ionizing rays on a number of biological indices in mice has been studied. The development of three successive generations of mice fed with radiated food (35% - of the total food content) has been followed up. The scientists have examined 20% maize, 10% plums and 5% shelled walnuts, radiated respectively with 0.75 KGy, 2 KGy and 1 KGy. The following biological indices of the generations have been traced: F08 - F38: average number of the offsprings, weight of the offsprings when weaned, hematologic examinations, enzymic activity in the blood GOT and GPT. The weights of the internal organs have been determined. It has been found that a long-term feeding of mice of 3 generations does not affect the normal development of the animals established on the basis of the above indices. (authors)
