Experimental study of a plasma generated by a θ-discharge

  • 1. Shizuoka Univ., Hamamatsu (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

The characteristics of a pre-ionization plasma generated by a θ-discharge which included no compression process were experimentally examined by means of interferometry, a magnetic loop and a streak camera. In contrast to conventional pre-ionization techniques, the θ-discharge can produce a quiescent, magnetized plasma with no density fluctuation; the degree of ionization of the resulting plasma is about 50 %.
