Description

The present Maryland program is to instrument a 2400 Kg Al 5056 bar antenna as a three-mode antenna coupled to a dc SQUID amplifier and operate it at 0.050 K. The current research effort is essentially directed at reducing cryostat noise levels, achieving a high-Q three-mode system, developing a quantum limited dc SQUID amplifier and defining realistic Quantum-Non-Demolition approaches. In this paper, the authors discuss briefly recent and ongoing coolings of 1660 Hz detectors and the current design for the 2400 kg 830 Hz Al 5056 detector. (Auth.)
