Paramagnetic scattering from a cubic ferromagnet Pd2MnSn

  • 1. Physics Department, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York 11973

Description

Paramagnetic neutron scattering from the localized, metallic ferromagnet Pd2MnSn is characterized for the entire range of energy and momentum (ω,Q) space for a temperature range between T/sub c/ (193 K) and room temperature. The scattering function S(Q,ω) can be well described by a simple double Lorentzian form S(Q,ω)proportionalT[1/(kappa12+q2) ]Λ1q2/[(Λ1q2)2 +ω2] where, for larger q, the q2 dependence in both Lorentzian factors changes over to a more general functional form. These results are in marked contrast to the case of the cubic, insulating ferromagnet EuO. This study reinforces our current interpretation of the constant-energy ridges which have also been observed in Ni
