Description
Chloride complexes of (2-4) B-group metals, particularly Cd, In, which appear as a result of γ-irradiation at 77 K of aqueous solutions of their salts, are studied. Alongside with the absorption of Cl2- ionradical, the absorption is found in the optical spectrum which is conditioned by the metal ion in the unusual and unstable oxidation state. The diagram of molecular levels for the 49 electron octahedron complex Msub(Hal)sup(Z)=MClsub(6)sup(n) (M=Ga, In, Tl at n=-3 and the diagram of molecular levels for 33 electron tetrahedron Msub(Hal)sup(Z)=MClsub(4)sup(n) complex (M=Zn, Cd, Hg at n=-2) are presented. It is established that a regular alteration of properties of these elements in unusual and unstable oxidation states depends on their position in the periodic system
