High resolution translational energy spectroscopy of one-electron capture in Ne2+-N2 collisions

  • 1. Tokyo Metropolitan Univ. (Japan). Faculty of Science

Description

By means of the translational energy spectroscopy, one-electron capture processes by Ne2+ ions from N2 molecules have been studied at several collision energies from 400 eV to 1600 eV at zero scattering angle. All Ne+ ions produced in Ne2+-N2 collision are resulted from only the exothermic reaction channels with the exothermicities ranging from 3.2 eV to 9.4 eV. Two groups of sharp peaks are observed, and they are assigned as Ne2+(1S0)+N2 → Ne+(2S1/2)+N2+(X2Σg+; v'=0.1) → Ne+(2S1/2)+N2+(A2Πui; v'=0∼4). A broad peak which corresponds to capture of an inner-valence-shell (2σg) electron of N2 is observed. The reaction mechanism is discussed on the basis of the reaction window. (author)
