Description
Ti-doped Al2O3 powders were prepared by co-precipitation method in different calcination atmosphere at 600 °C. The powders are identified as γ-phase, their average crystallite size is about 3 nm and the powders have certain amorphous characteristics. Through comparison of the photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra of different powders, it is confirmed that the spectra of γ-Al2O3 : Ti3+ powder calcined in H2 atmosphere originate from Ti3+ ions. γ-Al2O3 : Ti3+ has an effective excitation peak at 369 nm in wide PLE spectrum and the corresponding PL spectrum covering the entire visible region. The chromaticity coordinates of γ-Al2O3 : Ti3+ (1.0 at%) is (x = 0.268, y = 0.341). The results show that Ti3+ ion is a promising activator for single-phase white LED phosphor. (paper)
