Low-temperature gamma radiolysis of concentrated aqueous solutions of H2SO4 with additions of HNO3

Description

The γ radiolysis of frozen solutions of 5-16 M H2SO4 was investigated. It was shown that both the mechanism of the low-temperature radiolysis of such systems and the characteristics of their behavior during postradiation heating are determined primarily by the structure of the glasses, which is characterized by the formation of chain macroions of the acid. The introduction of additions of HNO3 into sulfuric acid glasses made it possible to observe the interconversions of the sulfate and nitrate radicals. The ratio var-epsilon(NO3)645nm/var-epsilon(HSO4)450nm = 0.50 ± 0.05 was found. 9 refs., 4 figs
