Description
An attempt was made to remove 60Co from low level liquid waste from PHWR like MAPS using manganese based sorbent. Initially studies on distribution ratio of 60Co on manganese based sorbent from solution at pH- 7.0, by column and batch method were carried out. On getting promising results, exchange capacity of manganese based sorbent for cobalt ion was carried out using cobalt salt solution at pH- 7.0 and the result was found to be about 0.6 meq.Co/gm. Further using manganese based sorbent coated acrylic fibers, decontamination of low level liquid waste from MAPS was carried out. From the results of decontamination studies conducted, it is revealed that removal of 60Co from liquid waste is feasible. (author)
