Process and device for ultrasonic detection of leaking fuel pencils in a fuel assembly

Description

The fuel assembly is dipped vertically into a swimming pool. Pencils from the assembly presenting cracks are detected by ultrasonic wave emission along pencil length and by measurement of ultrasonic wave attenuation produced by water inside pencils with cracked cladding

Abstract (French)

L'assemblage est plonge dans l'eau d'une piscine et place en position verticale. Une detection des crayons de l'assemblage presentant des fissures generatrices de fuite est assuree par emission d'ondes ultrasonores suivant la longueur de chacun des crayons et par mesure d'attenuation des ondes ultrasonores due a la presence d'eau a l'interieur des crayons dont la gaine est fissuree
