Interfacial reaction of metal-deuterium systems studied by electrochemical method
Description
Interfacial reaction of deuterium on a metal was studied by an electrochemical method. The electromotive force of a D2|D+ electrolyte| Metal cell was measured. The current in a short circuit of the cell and the recovery process of the electromotive force after breaking the short circuit were observed as a function of temperature. The free energy of D for a metal and the adsorption energies of metal-D system were evaluated. Interfacial reactions of D atom on a metal were discussed on the basis of the adsorption energy of D atom and the work function of a metal. Comparing with the values of the metal-H system, interfacial reactions of the metal-D system were discussed on the basis of the mass difference. (author)
