Polarization transfer and analyzing power in the 40, 48Ca (p,n) 40, 48 Sc reactions

Description

The authors measured analyzing powers and spin-flip probabilities for the 135 MeV (p,n) reaction on 40Ca and 48Ca. They found that analyzing powers are sensitive primarily to the nuclear structure of the particle-hole configuration produced and not to whether there is spin transfer in the reaction. The continum under and immediately adjacent to the GTGR is predominantly 1+ strength, and contains nearly 20% of the sum-rule strength. When the authors compared continuum spin-flip probabilities for these targets in the Q-value region from -30 to -45 MeV, they found no clear evidence for or against ''hidden'' G-T strength for 48Ca in this region
