High-resolution spin-echo imaging of the temporomandibular joint

This paper investigates the use of high-resolution, thin-section spin-echo (SE) imaging compared with conventional SE and three-dimensional gradient-echo imaging in the evaluation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). High-resolution, 1.5-mm-thick SE images with a 16-KHz sampling rate and a TE of 25 msec were compared with conventional 3-mm-thick SE images with a 32-KHz sampling rate and TE of 20 msec, in 10 patients with suspected internal derangement. Other imaging parameters were comparable. T1-weighted images with a TR of 800 msec, a 12-cm field of view, a 256 x 128 matrix, and two excitations were obtained on a 1.5-T General Electric Signa unit
