Description

Fifty tellurium compounds have been synthesized and their structure investigated. Dipole moments of a large series of diaryltellurium dihalides Ar2TeX (X = F, Cl, Br, I) are determined, the value of the group moments of Ph-TeX2 and of the valence angles of C-Te-C in these compounds are calculated. It is shown that in diaryltellurium dihalides with relatively weak donor or acceptor substituents tellurium atom interacts with the PI system of the aromatic ring mainly by the induction mechanism. The dipole moment of the molecules of these compounds is shown to be determined by the atomic moment component which is practically constant and does not depend on the electronegativity of the halogen or specific features of the molecule geometry
