The search for t bar t production in the lepton + jets channel using a secondary vertex b tag

Description
The authors present preliminary results of a search for t bar t production in p bar p collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV. the data were collected at the Fermilab Tevatron with the CDF detector. They consider the Standard Model decay t bar t → (e or μ)ν + jjb bar b. In addition to a high momentum lepton plus multijets, the authors require the presence of a b quark jet. A b-quark jet is identified via a displaced vertex utilizing a secondary vertex-finding algorithm. The results include an analysis of 19.3 pb-1 of data collected in 1992-1993 and improvements for the analysis of data from the ongoing Tevatron run
