Description

This is the report of the research project titled ''Nuclear Fusion'' supported by the gran-in-aid for fusion research from the Ministry of Education Science and Culture for the fiscal year 1983. The following 18 subjects are included in this research project. Group 1: Reactor materials and plasma-wall interactions, 1) heavy interaction irradiation effects, 2) plasma-wall interactions, 3) compatibility of non-metal materials including ceramics. Group 2: Science, technology and biological effects of tritium, 1) science and technology of tritium, 2) dynamics of tritium in environment, 3) biological effects of tritium. Group 3: Fundamentals of reactor plasma control, 1) diagnostics of high-temperature plasma, 2) fundamentals of implosion engineering for inertial confinement, 3) fundamentals of plasma heating, 4) physics of new schemes for plasma confinement. Group 4: Technology of superconducting magnet, 1) superconducting magnet materials, 2) fundamental phenomena of superconductivity, 3) magnet technology. Group 5: Fusion reactor blanket engineering, 1) fusion neutronics, 2) heat transfer, fluid dynamics and structural engineering. Group 6: Design and evaluation of fusion reactor, 1) system design, 2) technological assessment of fusion energy, 3) fusion theory.
