Formation of single-strand breaks in DNA resulting from high-intensity ultraviolet radiation

  • 1. Tbilisskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Tbilisi (USSR)

Description

Effect of laser UV radiation of high intensity (266 nm) on plasmid DNA was investigated. Single-strand breaks in DNA, resulting from two-quantum photockemical reactions, were revealed. The number of single-strand breaks grows proportionally with dose of 266 nm laser UV radiation at registered intensity. The dependence of single-strand break amount per flash on intensity is of quadratic character, which reflects two-quantum mechanism of the process, leading to single-strand break
