Fusion power near break-even

Four of the large tokamaks now under construction or in operation around the world are expected to approach breakeven conditions shortly. In the light of this progress, the consensus at a recent conference was that fusion could become economic. However, it is estimated that it will be at least thirty years before a practical machine comes on line. (author)
