Digital and hybrid simulation of heat exchangers for thermal or nuclear power plants

Description

Electricite de France has been, for many years, using extensively numerical or hybrid simulation in the study of heat exchangers problems. The hybrid methods were used for studying first the EDF gas cooled reactors, then the heat exchangers of the Phenix fast neutron reactor project. The analog technique used in the beginning (with continuous representation of time and discrete representation of space) was later on dropped in favour of a different approach (continuous representation of space and discretisation of time). In the meanwhile a numerical code was being developed. In this report emphasis is put on the most interesting aspects of this approach: numerical method adopted and stability problems; use of a unique set of subroutines for monophasic and diphasic (including the possibility of slip) flow; application of the model to the Ambes (125MW) and Porcheville B1 (600MW) power plants

Abstract (French)

Depuis plusieurs annees Electricite de France a utilise de facon extensive la simulation numerique ou hybride dans l'etude des problemes poses par les echangeurs. Les methodes hybrides ont ete utilisees d'abord pour les reacteurs de la filiere graphite-gaz, ensuite pour le projet Phenix de reacteur a neutrons rapides. La technique analogique utilisee pour les premiers, discretisation par blocs des variables d'espace et representation continue du temps, a ete abandonnee au profit d'une methode de resolution ou les variables d'espace sont representees de facon continue et ou le temps est discretise. Parallelement a cet effort, un code numerique a ete mis au point. Dans le cours de l'expose, on insistera sur les aspects les plus interessants: methode de resolution numerique adoptee. Problemes de stabilite. Utilisation d'un jeu de sous-programmes unique pour les ecoulements monophasiques et les ecoulements diphasiques avec glissement relatif des deux phases. Application du code aux centrales d'Ambes (125MW) et de Porcheville B1 (600MW)
