Description

It is demonstrated that the pion-momentum distributions experimentally observed in high-energy heavy-ion collisions imply large occupation numbers of the low-pT pions in the central rapidity region. Strong Bose-statistical correlations leading to the amplification of the low-pT pion emission can be expected in collisions of the most heavy nuclei. It is shown that this effect is highly sensitive to the formation time of pions. (orig.)
