Description
A contamination-free environment is critical not only in the workplace but also anywhere as well as at home. Proper equipment utilization must be prioritized to ensure the safety requirement, especially for radiation workers. Typically, portable radiation detectors, especially gamma-ray detectors usage to detect and measure radioactive contamination. Due to the cost and availability, this device is unable to get on the shelf in the market locally. Consequently, this paper aims to develop a gamma radiation detector called a survey meter to cater to the industrial need in safe surroundings. Besides the configuration of high voltage, Geiger Mueller (GM) tube and pulse shaper, this survey meter consists the special features, i.e. built-in GPS chip and storage function. The GM tube-based survey meter absorbs energy from penetrating radiation and measures the potential exposure. As a result, the development of survey meter with special features has been successfully developed and operating as planned. (author)
