Modal participation factors from in-situ test data

A method to evaluate modal participation factors from in-situ test data is presented. The method uses as input only mode shapes and, unlike the standard methods, the mass matrix of the structure is not required. It is shown that this method, in conjunction with the direct-generation-of-floor-response-spectrum approach, is a powerful tool for the requalification of equipment or components in operating structures.
