Impact of fission product deposition on release calculations: Chapter 13

  • 1. Impell Corp.

Description

This paper presents the results and conclusions of a RETAIN analysis for the V sequence from WASH-1400. A comparison of the results was made between RETAIN analysis and a draft of NUREG-0956 which will be included in the upcoming NUREG-3156. RETAIN predicted release fractions substantially lower than presented. A sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the impact of subcompartmentalization. Significant reduction in release fraction was predicted by RETAIN through subcompartmentalization. Also, the impact of the deposited fission products in the auxiliary pipes on the fission product release was examined. For the specific case analyzed, pipe plugging and subsequent melting were predicted which might alter the release pathway
