To the problem of shielding calculations for the radiation source of IRUS type

Description
A method for shielding calculations for the bremsstrahlung of β-sources is suggested. The method is based on the division of the gamma bremsstrahlung spectrum into energy ranges and the determination for each energy range of the total ionization gamma-constant, the absorption coefficients and the accumulation factors for the protection materials. The total exposition dose rate beyond the shielding is determined by means of summation of the exposition dose rate over all energy ranges. A table is presented containing the calculation data on the exposition dose rate beyond lead shielding for an industrial source of β-radiation-activity of 250 Ci. The error in the determinations of the thickness of shielding from gamma-radiation of β-sources by the above method does not exceed 5%
