Determination of the branching ratios of the decay of I-135 and Xe-135m

  • 1. Gesellschaft fuer Kernforschung m.b.H., Karlsruhe (F.R. Germany)

Description

Iodine was separated from fission products by an extraction technique about 10 hours after irradiation of an uranium sample in the FR2 reactor. Afterwards it was re-extracted into the aqueous phase as I-. Experiments were undertaken to determine the branching ratios of the decay of I-135 and Xe-135 m. From the measurements 65 to 88% of the Xe-135 m decays forming Xe-135; the most probable value is higher than 75%. The experimental result for the branching ratio of the I-135 decay is that 15.5 +- 0.5% decays forming Xe-135 m. (U.K.)
