Control of training in racetrack shaped superconducting magnets
Description
A series of experiments is described on small straight-sided (racetrack) magnets designed to investigate the influence of the force support structure on training. It was demonstrated in windings typical of those used in large magnets that training can be eliminated by correct clamping of the windings and that it can be re-introduced by poor clamping. This behavior was found for several quite different types of winding impregnation and was also confirmed at temperatures down to 2.30K
