ATLAS: a general purpose p-p experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN

Description

ATLAS is a general-purpose experiment that will exploit the potential of the LHC p-p collision programme. The essential design aspects of the ATLAS sub-detectors are described here emphasising on the muon spectrometer where some aspects for the muon reconstruction are included. Most of the information is taken from the technical design reports (TDRs) for all the sub-systems of the experiment. In addition a physics overview is given based on the recently published physics TDR. (orig.)
