Description
Elastic and 2s, 2p excitation cross sections for electron-hydrogen collisions have been investigated by an approximate form of the Faddeev equations, taking into account the coupling of the 1s, 2s and 2p states of the target atom. Results with and without the inclusion of the exchange effect have been presented and compared with other theoretical findings. Present results neglecting exchange are the same as those obtained by previous workers. In the case of elastic scattering, the effect of exchange is not negligible even at the incident energy 500eV. The results for the 1s-2s and 1s-2p excitation cross sections including exchange are in very good agreement with the experimental findings. (author)
