Metastable dissociations of CH3NO2+ and CD3NO2+ ions
Description
A large kinetic isotope effect has been observed for the metastable transitions of CX3NO2+ → CX2NO+ + OX (X = H, D). The large effect was explained by assuming a rate-determining isomerization to an aci-nitromethane ion and the quantum mechanical tunneling of a hydrogen atom. (author)
