Role of Ce3+ in the luminescence of MgO
Description
The presence of Ce in MgO:Li:Eu phosphor system is found to alter its luminescent behaviour. At a concentration of 10-2per cent Ce, the fluorescence emission of europium at 595 nm is sensitized but at higher concentrations, it acts as a killer of the europium emission. The stimulation behaviour is dependent on the conditions of phosphor preparation and on the excitation mechanism. Effect of Ce concentration on the physical properties of the phosphors is reported.
