Fast breeder reactor
Description
Fast breeder reactor was outlined. Sodium cooled fast reactor is the best choice as a compact reactor core. Concepts of Monju reactor, top entry system loop type reactor and a commercialized reactor were described briefly. Monju reactor is a prototype reactor of sodium-cooled three loops using MOX fuel. Top entry system loop type reactor chooses innovative technologies such as modified 9Cr1Mo steels and reinforced concrete rectangular containment vessel to reduce capital costs. Commercialized reactor shall be more economical, reliable and safer and relevant innovative technological developments are under way as Fast Reactor Cycle Technology Development Project (FaCT) by 2015 in JAEA.
