Induction linear accelerator

Description

The invention is aimed at the formation of focusing magnetic and electric fields in the accelerating zone of a linear induction electron accelerator (LIEA). The fields provide the regulation of equilibrium beam radius along the acceleration tract and also an effective beam extraction from the accelerator. The LIEA proposed comprises induction magnetic coils, accelerating system and focusing device made in the form of a coil with sections connected in series with oncoming winding of loops. Such a coil gives an opportunity to form axially symmetric sign-changing focusing magnetic field. While changing the section length and the pitch of winding of loops it becomes possible to vary the field periodicity and to change the voltage amplitude of the magnetic field according to the necessary law. The focusing system of such a type is proposed to be used for heavy-current pulse accelerators
