Description
To obtain the relationship between the radon concentrations in groundwater and the air-borne gamma-ray dose rates, the present investigation was carried out by sampling the groundwater during 1996-2001 at selected points in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, and measured the radon concentrations (1-1000 Bq/kg) using the IM-fontactoscope as well as some properties such as water temperature, pH, eruption rate, amounts of dry residue and geological classification of existing rocks, together with data of chemical analysis: Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, SO42-, HCO32-, H2SiO3, and CO2. The paper presents some conclusions from the investigation results. The correlation between the radon concentrations in groundwater and the air-borne gamma-ray absorbed dose rates (25-60 nGy/h) measured with NaI(Tl) scintillation counters for some cities or towns.
