Synthesis and biological properties of ethenyl thiophenes

  • 1. Department of Chemistry, School of Sciences, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar (India)

Description

p-Hydroxy and p-amino phenyl ethenyl thiophenes exhibit antioxidant activity comparable to 4-hydroxy stilbene and through proton transfer mechanism. The antioxidant properties of ethenyl thiophene is further reduced upon substitution. Ethenyl thiophenes also show anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities, but with low efficacy as compared to kanamycin. (author)
