Description

Different additional currencies are emerging in France for local exchanges of goods, services or knowledge (two types are distinguished: currencies associated with a territory, and thematic currencies), and some of them aim at being at the service of ecological and energy transition (additional currencies with environmental vocation, MCE) such as the local one (the Eusko) and the thematic one (MyTroc). Their existence has been legally acknowledged in July 2014. Thus, this note aims at highlighting the potential of these MCEs because of the positive environmental impacts they may generate, and their articulation with existing public policies. After an overview of the situation of MCEs (various objectives and operating modes, environmental impacts, potential for energy and environmental transition, success factors), the authors state three propositions for their development, and finally discuss how to integrate them into public policies related to food governance, preservation of common goods, circular economy, energy and climate. This paper presents two versions of the same information.
