Description

In Japan, it has been suggested that disused nuclear energy plant should be decommissioned as soon as possible for construction of new plant in its place. The most difficult aspect of decommissioning is dismantling the pressure vessel which is fabricated from thick low alloy steel. The development and testing of a combined gouging and cutting torch for use underwater on commercial reactor components is described. (author)
