Disposal of radioactive wastes
Description
A review is presented of past, present and future disposal practices in the UK for the various types of solid radioactive waste. Direct discharges of liquid or gaseous effluents to the environment are not considered here. Section headings are: disposal routes for very low-level waste; present practices for active wastes (principally those classified as low-level or intermediate-level wastes); NIREX (Nuclear Industry Radioactive Waste Executive); low- and intermediate-level arisings in 2000 AD; site selection; safety; public acceptance.
