The dynamics of natural-circulation flow in a bent loop with a U-shaped type cooler

Description

Simple one-dimensional nonlinear analysis of the dynamic behavior of a single-phase natural-circulation loop with a U-shaped type cooler is attempted. The model is composed of several lumped-parameter systems and transport lags, and the transient responses of the natural-circulation velocity and the temperatures at different locations due to pump tripping are obtained. The analytical results are partly compared with the results of experiments, which were conducted at atmospheric pressure using water as the working fluid. Good qualitative agreement is seen between the predicted and measured transient behaviors. It is also shown that the instability criterion can be well predicted. (author)
