Experimental aspects of Vickers indentation crack testing
Description
The main parametric and experimental variables in the indentation crack testing of brittle solids are listed and discussed briefly with reference to the need for standardisation. Variables indentified include surface preparation, indenter geometry, load levels, specimen edge effects, the definition and measurement of crack length and environment. Results are presented that illustrate the effects of the sample edge on cracking in a hardmetal. (author) 14 refs., 5 figs
