Description

Positron annihilation studies are presented in order to reveal details in the microstructure of amorphous hydrogenated carbon (a-C:H) which cannot be resolved by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The first study already shows that micropores with about 0.5 nm in diameter occupy at least 3% of the total volume in a-C:H. However, this result is consistent with quite contrary models for the microstructure of a-C:H. The further clarification by extended positron studies is discussed. (orig.)
